Sometimes I get a kick out of how us humans interact with each other in social settings. We meet and greet, shake hands and soon enough we ask or announce what we do for a living. Used to be back in the old days we'd ask "How do you do"? As time has moved on and society and culture has become more goal oriented we now ask " What do you do?". I believe that God called us to "be". I believe He wants us to live out our full potential, and be who we are supposed to be. To live in His purpose every day of our lives. I heard one pastor say that "we are human beings not human doings". The encouraging thing to know is that who we are is the constant, and what we do is what is subject to change. What if that thing you do (career-wise), suddenly becomes obsolete. What if making cars was no longer needed, or making that entrée' was suddenly not needed. That thing you are known for doing now gets done on it's own, or by some computer. Poof-with a push of a button your job is now eliminated. If all your eggs are in that basket, you have just lost hope. Thank God that our worth is in who we are in Him and not in what we do. Let's look at what Moses, one of our heroes of faith said when he was chosen to lead the Israelites out of slavery;
Exo 3:13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? Exo 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. You see He has always been and will be. And what we need, we find that in Him. If it's healer, deliverer, savior, king, friend, comforter, vindicator, you name it-He's it! And so my sisters I want to encourage you to remember who you are, and not rely on what you do to define you. You may even be acting "a fool" right now, but you have been called and bought with a price. You are a daughter of the king and a joint heir with Christ (see Romans 8:17). That's what you are. That's who you are. And the good works that follow you, comes out of you for simply "being" His. I am: I am better able to be used by God as I cleanse myself of the wood and clay in my life. 2 Timothy 2:20-21 I am learning to go boldly to God in prayer and in him I find grace and mercy in time of need. Hebrews 4:16 I am complete in Christ. Colossians 2:10 I am created in the image of God. Genesis 1:27 I am walking humbly with my God. Micah 6:8 I am blessed because I know and follow God’s principles. Proverbs 29:18 I am a child of God. 1 John 3:1 Because I am a child of God, He sent the Spirit of his Son to live in my heart. Galatians 4:6
