Stand Still Until He Speaks by Kenika
If you are an ambitious go-getter, who is not comfortable unless they are moving and shaking, then you are a lot like me.  If someone started talking to me about slowing down, relaxing, being low-key or stagnant for a while, they might as well be speaking Chinese, because it’s a language that I do not understand.  Ambition comes loaded with impatience and anxiety.  The Bible says be anxious for nothing; however I was anxious for everything.  Patience and/or waiting were words that were not frequent members of my vocabulary.  Naturally because of this, God took me through a long journey of learning how to go through seasons and times of waiting.

Now, even though I am still ambitious and ideas, plans, and goals are on my brain constantly, I know how to wait until the timing is right.  Yet and still, one area that I am still working on is waiting until God speaks, waiting until He gives me the “go-ahead” with those ideas, plans and goals. You would think I have learned my lesson after years of jumping into situations without a second thought, and trying to make things happen when it just wasn’t the right thing, or the right time.  But I still have to surrender this to God almost daily, even after all of the times I’ve missed Him in this area.

Moses is helping a few gentlemen come to a conclusion on a matter in Numbers 9, but he didn’t just come up with a quick solution to solve their problem, or conjure up his God-given wisdom even though he could have.  He told them to stand still, stop in your tracks, slow down, pull back the reins, halt…let me take this matter to God and we will see what He says.  They trusted him as a man of God, full of leadership and wisdom, so I’m sure they would’ve respected his answer even if he presented it off the cuff, so to speak.  BUT, Moses didn’t give them his wisdom or know-how, he told them to stop what they were doing, thinking, or trying to figure out on their own, and decided to present the matter to God.

So I began to question myself.  Am I consulting God with my decisions?  Am I stopping everything,
forsaking what I think and what I know to find out what’s on His mind about the matter?  Life isn’t chance, or coincidences, and my life is not my own, so am I giving Him the proper placement in my life? Is He just Lord over my life in general, or have I made Him Lord over my choices as well?  Again, my life is not my own, I belong to Him which means no matter how anxious or excited I may be about a new prospect in life, He is in control and I want to glean from His counsel before I take any steps.

I sit back and imagine how different my life would be had I instituted this principle a long time ago, everything we do, say or think would be perfectly in line with what He wants for us.  When opportunities are flying your way, and doors are seemingly swinging open, take a moment and stop, stand still, and hear what the Lord has to say about the matter.  If He doesn’t give you the green light, you’ll feel safe in His protection, if He does give you the green light, you will feel confident walking into whatever new adventure He has permitted you experience.
