Have you ever heard the saying: “Keep it Simple Sweetie”(KISS)? I feel that is what God is saying to me in my life every now and then. We can get our life so complicated by the way we overreact on things or over commit on things that is causes us a lot of stress and we become too busy to recognize it at times.
In our family, we are learning to keep life simple and enjoy the moment with our kids. A few ways that has helped with that is freeing up our schedule and not committing to everything. There are a lot of things that are good to do and even good ministries to be involved with but if it affects your time with God and family it is not worth it. Saying " no " to things in our life has given us margin to live.
Another area is to not overreacting (overreact) to everything. As I am a mother of three and soon to be a mother of four children, I am learning the art of patience and not having everything be perfect. There are times you have to just pick your battles and not let the small stuff bother you. In situations, it can be so easy to overreact and not think about what we say but keeping it simple and stepping back helps me realize that it isn’t really a big deal.
What has helped me live a simple life is the spirit of the Lord. I don’t desire the things of this world and the Lord puts it into perspective for me that I can live in freedom and not have to worry am I doing enough for God because he wants our heart and spirit aligned with him. Once we are aligned with Him, I tend to not overreact or over commit because I realize what is important. Bottom line, “Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, he gives freedom” 2 Corinthians 3:17. Living in that freedom keeps us living a life of simplicity.
